Foot & Ankle MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the fastest and safest non-invasive method to get the clearest pictures of your foot & ankle anatomy. Weil Foot & Ankle Institute has been using MRI since 2007.
Our machines are sophisticated, state-of-the-art Siemens’ Jazz Extremity OPEN MRI and Esaote OPEN MRI. They are much quieter than the big tube MRIs, with no claustrophobic effect to our patients.
This service provides our physicians with the ability to detect cartilage injuries, fractures, infections, ligament, and tendon injuries, and other abnormalities earlier in the treatment program. Our advanced MRI imaging allows us to determine the most precise diagnosis, so that we can design the most comprehensive care plan for your specific foot condition.
Patient Information
MRI is a painless procedure that has virtually no known side effects. To date, millions of patients have experienced MRI, and the procedure has proven to be extremely safe. MRI uses a magnet instead of x-rays, and is considered to be safer than the other diagnostic techniques that use radiation.
Exceptions are patients with brain aneurysm clips, metallic foreign bodies in the eye, very recent surgery with orthopedic implants, pacemakers, or cochlear implants.
If you think you may be pregnant, please notify the physician and the technologist.
Since MRI uses an extremely strong magnet, no metallic objects will be allowed in the scanning room.
To ensure your safety, you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire before your MRI scan. There are no restrictions regarding eating, activities, or your regular medications before or after the test.
Our patient coordinator will schedule an appointment for an MRI once it is ordered by your podiatrist. Please avoid wearing clothing that contains any metal pieces. Jewelry, watches, and credit cards will not be allowed in the scanning room.
An MRI at our facility takes about one hour. Images are taken with great precision to capture the most thorough information and important pathology related to your foot condition. Once your imaging is complete, you will be able to schedule a MRI review appointment with your podiatrist. Your report will also be made available to your regular physician within 24 to 48 hours of your imaging.
