Weil Foot & Ankle Institute is the only practice that designs and fabricates its own custom-molded foot and ankle braces on site. In fact, we are pleased to introduce a product called the Bongiovanni brace, whose pressure-sensitive materials provide stability and shock absorption.
Our board-certified podiatrist in Merrillville, IN, first evaluates your feet to determine the appropriate device necessary for your particular foot. An impression is then taken to capture your foot and ankle’s anatomy. Proper casting technique holds the ankle joint at 90 degrees, keeping the subtalar and midtarsal joints in a neutral position.
The created mold is designed with corrections to help alleviate your specific foot deformities. Corrections are held in place by adding plaster to the mold to offload any pressure points or pathologic structures.
Next, a pattern of the positive mold is created to fabricate the closure system. Weil Foot & Ankle Institute uses a state-of-the-art interior closure system made with X-static material that is both anti-microbial and moisture-wicking.
Stabilizing material (polypropylene) is then vacuum pressed to maintain proper anatomic alignment. After custom vacuuming, the material is then handcrafted to your exact specifications.
Final assembly entails incorporating all the different layers into one device. A trim line is then created that will provide you with adequate shoe fit.
This device is fabricated with a thin polypropylene shell encompassed by a closure system that is composed of X-static on the interior, and genuine calf-skin leather that is both soft and durable. This device comes in two colors, black and beige.
This state-of-the-art technology – indicated for drop-foot deformity –is feather-light and durable. The device allows stabilizing forces to prevent foot drop deformity; its thin design allows an easy shoe fit.
This device is a hybrid that provides a perfect balance between control and shock absorption. These materials actually mold to the contour of your feet. The Bongiovanni brace has a revolutionary fabrication process that entails building your brace around a soft polyurethane footbed system. This footbed system’s innovative material is imported from Germany to provide the most advanced and state-of-the-art technology. The material is also specially manufactured to maximize bonding strength, as well as infused with silver to prevent bacteria growth.

We are requiring patients and anyone accompanying them to arrive for their appointment with a face covering, (such as a scarf, bandana, t-shirt, handmade mask or other) that covers their nose and mouth already in place. If they or their guests arrive without one, they will be asked to return to their car to put one on or reschedule their appointment. We are unable to issue surgical masks to patients at this time. As such, beginning on the morning of April 8th, we will require patients and visitors to arrive for their appointment already wearing a face covering.
